How to Play

You play Frozen Bubble online using the mouse or touchpad. Drag the mouse cursor to where you want the bubble to land and then click with the mouse to send it off. Before you start playing, you must start the game. Click on ”start playing,” and a game board with colorful bubbles will be set up. There are bubbles in seven different colors, and these bubbles are placed randomly on the board, which initially consists of eight rows with 16 bubbles in each row.

At the bottom, you can see the bubble you are ready to shoot at the board. In the bottom left corner, you can also see the next bubble in the queue. The small rainbow on the left indicates how many shots you have left before the board drops down a level.

Goal: Shoot down the bubbles and collect points

The goal in Frozen Bubble is, as mentioned, to shoot colored bubbles towards the playing surface and form groups of three or more bubbles of the same color. Each such group is then removed and gives you points. Larger groups give you more points. A group of three bubbles gives three points, but four bubbles give five points, etc.

When the bubbles no longer stick to the top, they automatically fall down. You also get points for these bubbles.

Each time you fail to form a new group, a part of the rainbow in the lower left corner disappears. When the rainbow is gone, the bubbles move down towards you. If the bubbles reach all the way down to you and outside the light blue square, you have lost. You have three chances before the bubbles drop down. When the bubbles move down, they not only move straight down, they also move one step to the right or left so that the bubbles can end up in different places than they were before.

If you hit a black bubble, it explodes and destroys all nearby bubbles. You don’t get any points for these bubbles, but it can still be useful in some situations, for example, if you need to shoot away bubbles so they don’t end up outside the board.

As you can see, it’s not surprising that the game is sometimes also called Bubble Shooter; that’s essentially what it’s all about – shooting bubbles!

In Frozen Bubble, the aim is, as said, to collect as many points as possible during the game round. On the right side of the window, you can see the current score of the game round. There you can also see your scoring record so you know how many points you need to collect to beat your personal record. Perfect for those who like to compete against themselves, in other words!

• Who gets the highest average score in 10 game rounds? This requires some manual work where you need to write down the score from each game round. After playing the 10 rounds, you sum up your points and divide by 10. The one with the highest average score wins the challenge.
• Play best of three. Again, you need to write down your scores from the game rounds. Then sum up the three game rounds and see who has the highest score.

History and Background

The game was originally created by Taito in 1994. It was then called Puzzle Bobble or Bust-a-Move. In 1996, David Dobson created an improved version of the game, which he called Snood. Since then, many variants of the game have been created, and the game is now known under many names such as Snood, Frozen Bubble, Bubble Up, and Bubble Shooter.
