How to play Mahjong
Mahjong is a tile-matching game. The object of the game is to remove matching tiles from the board in pairs. Only tiles that are open to the left or the right, and not covered by other tiles, are free to be selected. If you run out of pairs, start a new game or undo and make different choices.
There are 144 tiles, with each image (except for seasons and flowers) appearing 4 times. For matching, any two season tiles match and any two flower tiles match.

When hints are selected, the shape of the mouse will change to a hand over tiles that have matches, and it will change to an arrow with a question mark over free tiles that cannot be matched.
History of Mahjong
The name Mahjong (Màhjeung) means sparrow. There are other names for this Chinese game; mahjongg, majiang, mah-jong and mah-jongg. This board game is really a game for 2-4 players. Before Nintendo started creating console games, they created Mahjong boards and tiles. The game on this page is the solitaire version, which became popular in 1986, when it was released for the Macintosh and Apple II (they called the game Shanghai).
